ABC Content Ideas Lab

Online Launch Statement 11 May 2020

As a proud anchor partner of STORYBOX, the ABC Content Ideas Lab is presenting stories created and curated especially for the communities of Parramatta and City of Sydney.

This is a unique opportunity for the ABC to connect with people through meaningful and vibrant visual storytelling in public spaces.

A collection of content is being showcased here on the Storybox website. Highlights online include a curated selection of video sourced from deep within the ABC Archive that shows snapshots of life in Parramatta in the 50s and 60s.

The ABC has also been experimenting with 'slow TV' style footage including a visual meandering through bushland in the Blue Mountains, which was devastated by bushfires in the summer of 2019-2020.

ABC + STORYBOX

In October 2020 STORYBOX launched outdoors in Parramatta Square, with a second activation launched in Darling Square in April 2021.

The ABC's partnership with STORYBOX is exploring the role of the national public broadcaster in public spaces. The partnership allows the ABC to use innovative storytelling formats and techniques to connect with diverse communities in a hyper-local way.

The STORYBOX partnership follows the opening of the ABC’s Western Sydney bureau in March, where journalists and producers from ABC News and ABC Radio Sydney are focused on finding and telling the stories of Western Sydney’s many diverse communities.

The ABC Content Ideas Lab experiments with innovative content formats to connect with new audiences across the country and around the world.
